Please Note - this article is long, but has a lot of important information for you to know as you prepare to review the Quality Process for your portfolio.
At the end of this article is information about how the Academy Assessment is scored!
You should NOT send an Academy Assessment to "Academy Review" if:
The academy needs to upload evidence
The academy needs to update data for auto-populated questions
You would like them to add a note, etc.
You SHOULD send an Academy Assessment to Academy Review" ONLY if:
The academy needs to change an answer that they had to manually select (such as 1.1.a)
The following is a guide for Portfolio Managers as you review Data Collection, Roll Forward and Academy Assessment for your portfolio academies. This is not meant to be comprehensive, but instead a reminder of what items should be given attention. For any discrepancies, concerns or NAF errors – please submit a ticket on ASH
Data Collection
Form 1: Academy Information
All information should be completed – for those academies with a district relationship, be sure that the CTE Director item is completed
Form 8: Work-Based Learning
Review WBL activities and WBL Calendar
Encourage academies to add these activities to WBL Tracker (review Tracker to understand academy’s current usage)
Form 9: Program of Study
This is the first time that we will have the chance to review the full Program of Study for an academy in this format. We are no longer requiring academies to “request course approval” in NAFTrack. This form is the only place where academies are required to report the courses that students are taking. This form is your opportunity as PM to review and discuss program of study with academies. Here are a few key items to look out for in this form:
Begin by reviewing definition of “Career Connected Program of Study” from the C&I team - https://ash.naf.org/public/article/index/what-does-career-connected-program-of-study-mean
Does the academy list a full sequence of courses for the academy (4 semesters or more)?
Are there any courses that seem out of place or inappropriate for an academy (e.g. English Lit. Or an agriculture course listed in a Finance academy)?
Form 11: Roll Forward Selection
Review the Thresholds – ensuring that they match what is in the Academy Assessment and flag any thresholds that will result in a decrease in Quality Level (e.g. dropping from Distinguished to Model)
Note that historic Quality Levels are listed at the bottom of this page
Be sure the review the Thresholds page for each academy to determine if they have met Model or Distinguished levels
Pay attention to new Academy Assessment items (such as 3.1.a) that are new or for which there is new data populating (e.g. the Program of Study form)
Academy Assessment Items 4.2c and 4.2d - are unscored and are NOT auto-populated
A provisional score appears in the Academy Support Hub (ASH) after an academy submits NAF’s online Academy Assessment (AA) for review. NAF's portfolio managers review the completed AA and finalize or contact the academy lead for additional information. The portfolio manager finalizes the AA to reflect that all required evidence validates designated responses. The final score represents the academy's fidelity in implementing NAF's design.
Score Calculation
An academy earns points for each strategic action that it implements, with higher implementation receiving more points. The maximum amount of points an academy can earn for each strategic action is 30 points. Scores depend on the number of options available within the strategic action. Examples:
